On June 25, 2024, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei called on Hawalli Governor Ali Al-Asfar. They exchanged their views on efforts to enhance China-Kuwait relations and foster sub-national cooperation between the two sides.

Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude to Ali for his long-term attention to China-Kuwait friendship and China’s development. He pointed out that with personal commitment and strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Amir Sheikh Mishal, bilateral relationship has achieved constant growth, enjoying broad prospects. As this year marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of Belt and Road cooperation agreements between China and Kuwait, China will work with Kuwait to fully implement the important common understandings between the two leaders and advance high-quality growth of bilateral relationship.

For his part, Ali emphasized that Kuwait puts a high value on its relationship with China and applauds China’s remarkable achievements and its commitment to taking the responsibility inherent in being a major nation. He thanked the important role China has played in maintaining regional peace and stability. The Kuwaiti side has full confidence in the future of Kuwait-China relations and will work with the Chinese side to further deepen exchanges and cooperation between the governorate and local provinces in China in pursuit of win-win results.
