On November 20, 2024, Ambassador Zhang Jianwei attended the opening ceremony of the 47th Kuwait International Book Fair. At the event he accompanied Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Culture Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi and Secretary General of National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) Issa Al-Ansari on their visit to Chinese book booths.
Ambassador Zhang introduced the Arabic and English versions of Chinese books including “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China”, BRI-related publications, four classic novels of Chinese literature, and celebrity biographies to Minister Al-Mutairi and other visitors at present. He noted that China has participated in Kuwait’s international fair for years in a row, presenting a wide variety of Chinese publications on various themes which serve as an important gateway for a deeper understanding of China and its culture. Such publications have been popular with local people in Kuwait and fostered cultural exchanges and people-to-people ties between the two sides. He expected the visitors to read more books about China so as to understand the country as it is.
At the event, Ambassador Zhang gave an interview with Kuwait TV and local newspapers.
The annual Kuwait International Book Fair is one of the major book exhibitions in the Middle East region. This year’s event attracted 482 publishers from 29 countries.
