The full text of the remarks is as follows:

Your Excellency Mr. John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China,

Your Excellency Mr. Khalifa Alajeel Alaskar, Minister of Commerce and Industry of the State of Kuwait,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon!

It is my pleasure to attend today's business luncheon. During their visit to Kuwait, the high-level delegation headed by Chief Executive John Lee hold the face-to-face communication with leading figures from Kuwaiti business community, fully demonstrating Hong Kong's sincere desire to deepen cooperation with Kuwait. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Hong Kong delegation, and express my heartfelt thanks to all the guests present today for your longstanding contributions to promoting China-Kuwait relations.

In recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, exchanges and cooperation between China and Kuwait have been deepening across all fields. The projects signed in the presence of the two heads of state are making significant progress. In particular, the advancement of projects such as the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port Project and Renewable Energy Project are now being accelerated, and practical cooperation in other areas is being deepened and substantiated, which makes contribution to Kuwait's economic and social development, and injects new momentum into China-Kuwait strategic partnership.

Nowadays, the international order and economic globalization are facing severe challenges. No external shocks can change China’s economic fundamentals with a stable foundation, numerous strengths, remarkable resilience and vast potential, nor can they change the consistent trend of China’s steady progress in pursuing high-quality development. China's 5.4% GDP growth in the first quarter of this year serves as vivid proof. Economic and trade talks between China and U.S. senior officials, conducted on the basis of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, have yielded substantive progress, which meets the expectations of producers and consumers in both countries and serves the interests of both nations and the global community.

China will steadfastly uphold genuine multilateralism, firmly preserve the global trading order, and work with more partners to inject greater stability into world trade. President Xi Jinping emphasized multiple times that China will only open its door even wider. China is promoting high-quality development with high-level opening-up, and embracing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization, which will bring more opportunities to all countries including Kuwait.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As one of the world's freest economies, Hong Kong is an international financial, shipping, and trading centre and an international aviation hub. Hong Kong enjoys a highly international business environment by rule of law, as well as its global commercial network. With the unique advantages of “one country, two systems” and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong’s economic complementarities with Kuwait becomes ever greater, and there are broader prospects for trade and investment cooperation between them.

Chief Executive John Lee's delegation has received high-level hospitality in Kuwait. Both sides have conducted extensive and in-depth exchanges on deepening Hong Kong-Kuwait cooperation and have reached important consensus. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, I would like to extend sincere congratulations. I believe this visit will not only greatly advance Hong Kong-Kuwait cooperation but also have a positive impact on China-Kuwait relations.

Many Kuwaiti friends who have visited China told me that China represents the future and is full of opportunities, and to embrace China is to embrace the future and opportunities. We welcome Kuwaiti friends to invest and do business in the Mainland and Hong Kong of China, and we also welcome entrepreneurs from the China’s Mainland and Hong Kong to seek opportunities and deepen cooperation in Kuwait. Chinese Embassy will continue to provide support and assistance for exchanges and cooperation between the two sides.

In conclusion, wish Chief Executive John Lee’s visit to Kuwait a complete success! Wish Hong Kong-Kuwait cooperation abundant fruits! And wish China-Kuwait relations to flourish ever more, bringing greater benefits to our two countries and peoples!

Thank you!
