On September 9, 2025, Liu Xiang, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait gives an interview to the Kuwait News Agency on the occasion of the Kuwaiti delegation’s attendance in the 10th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong. The interview covered China-Kuwait relations, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit. Key points are as follows:

Kuwait was the first country in the Middle East to sign a cooperation document with China on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative. In recent years, China and Kuwait have worked together to to strengthen the synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and Kuwait Vision 2035, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote common development. Economic and trade cooperation between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China(HKSAR) and Kuwait also enjoys a solid foundation. In May this year, during the visit of Chief Executive of HKSAR John Lee’s visit to Kuwait, Hong Kong and Kuwait signed 24 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements, yielding fruitful outcomes.
Recently, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit was successfully held in China. During the Meeting, President Xi Jinping called for better alignment of development strategies, and promoting the high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, and strengthening the momentum of regional development and improve the well-being of the people. Kuwait is a partner country of the SCO, also a close friend and reliable partner of China. China stands ready to work with Kuwait under both bilateral and multilateral frameworks to deepen practical cooperation across sectors, and promote the upgrading of physical connectivity, the strengthening of institutional connectivity and the deepening of people-to-people connectivity, so as to contribute to building a China-Arab community with a shared future and deliver greater benefits to the two peoples.
